Vodar

Prove the Blend

“Vodar” (водар) is Belarusian for aroma — and the name of a Belarusian rye bread.

A daily deduction puzzle you prove, rather than guess.

£3.99 on the App Store and Google Play · one payment · No ads · No account · Plays offline.

  • Vodar on the café day: four empty gauges for strong, creamy, sweet and cold, an empty four-slot mix, and a pantry of coffees each showing its four readings face up.
  • Vodar on the paint day, part-way through: three tries on the board, each axis reading a total with an arrow for which way it is wrong, and two of four ingredients chosen.
  • Vodar solved in three tries: the teapot flooded with colour, and the mix named as mint, lavender, lemongrass and ginger.
  • Vodar on the table day: a green page of hummus, feta, olives and tomato, weighed on salty, rich, fresh and spicy.
  • Vodar on the golden hour day: a gold page with an untouched pantry of mango, lime, hibiscus and tamarind.
  • Vodar on the perfume day: a plum page of rose, jasmine, lavender and neroli, measured on floral, citrus, woody and amber.
  • Vodar on the spice day in dark mode: a deep maroon page of chilli, black pepper, ginger and cinnamon — the app follows the phone from sunset.

About the game

Vodar is a daily blending puzzle. Twelve ingredients are laid out face up with their numbers on show; pick four, and the game answers on every axis at once — too sweet, not strong enough, just right — so each try tells you which way you are wrong, not merely that you are. Six tries to prove the mix.

Most daily puzzles answer right or wrong. Vodar answers with a direction. Submit four ingredients and every axis reports separately — too sweet, not strong enough, balanced — which turns a guess into evidence and a game into an argument you can win on paper.

A different pantry each morning: coffee on Monday, spice on Tuesday, paints on Wednesday, perfume on Thursday, golden hour on Friday, the table on Saturday, tisane on Sunday. Seven, and regulars learn all of them.

Every answer is checked by a solver before it is ever served, so no day can end in a coin flip between two possibilities — and no mix that balances on all four axes is ever the wrong one. Solve it and the day’s vessel floods with colour.

Vodar is out now on iPhone, iPad and Android. You can still play today’s puzzle in your browser for nothing — the same engine, compiled to run on the page, with nothing to install — while the app keeps what the page cannot: every tier, a half-played morning, and the days you have already proved.

What makes it good

  • Directional clues — every guess says which way each axis is off, not just that it is.
  • Always deducible — a solver vets every answer, so no day ends in a coin flip.
  • Seven pantries — a different palette every weekday, from coffee to paints to tisane.
  • Three tiers, three separate dailies — Hard takes the match count away entirely.
  • The app does the arithmetic — running totals, live gauges, and the count of mixes still possible.
  • Quiet by design — no ads, no accounts, no tracking, and it plays fully offline.

Free in your browser, or yours to keep

The browser version is the whole game engine, given away — no trial, no timer, no nagging. What the app adds is memory: the shared daily, and everything you build up by coming back.
